2014 World Open Water Swimming Man of the Year Nomination[edit]
Do Carmo is nominated for the 2014 World Open Water Swimming Man of the Year.
Nomination[edit]
"Taking after his Brazilian female teammates Ana Marcela Cunha and Poliana Okimoto, Allan Lopes Mamédio do Carmo is an Olympian. But for the first time in his long career, he became the FINA 10K Marathon Swimming World Cup champion this year. After last year’s FINA World Championship medal performance in the 5 km team pursuit, Do Carmo is finding himself highly motivated by the prospects of representing Brazil at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. His motivation is equaled by his racing performance throughout the 2014 season where he outsprinted Olympic medalists like Thomas Lurz and Richard Weinberger while outpointing every other elite male swimmer in the world. For winning the FINA 10K Marathon Swimming World Cup series title for the first time, for joining Ana Marcela Cunha in a dominating Brazilian sweep of the FINA World Cup titles, for winning 2 races on the pro circuit as well as the South American Games 10 km race and the 4 km team pursuit, Allan do Carmo is a worthy nominee for the 2014 World Open Water Swimming Man of the Year."
