Alison Streeter MBE

International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame and International Swimming Hall of Fame]] Queen of the Channel]] Alison Streeter MBE from Great Britain was inducted as an Honour Swimmer in the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame in 1985. In May 2006, she was also inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame as an Honour Swimmer. She joins her mother Freda Streeter in the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame and is a member of the 24-hour club.

Open Water Swimming Career Highlights

• She is the Queen of the Channel®.
• She has successfully crossed the English Channel a record 43 times. The next closest people are Kevin Murphy with 34 crossings, Michael Read with 33 crossings, and Chloë McCardel with 21 crossings.
• In 1984, she became the first European woman to complete a two-way crossing (67 km in 21 hours 16 minutes) of the English Channel which she did 2 other times.
• In 1990, she became the first woman to complete a 3-way crossing (100.5 km in 34 hours 40 minutes).
• She has completed the Triple Crown of Open Water Swimming by completing the English Channel, Catalina Channel and circumnavigation of Manhattan Island.
• She has swum the English Channel seven times in one year and is the fastest woman from France to England.
• She was the first woman to swim across the North Channel.
• She completed three channel swims in five weeks linking Ireland, Scotland, England, Wales and France.
• She competed in the 1990 36 km Maratona del Golfo Capri-Napoli in Italy
• The Queen appointed Streeter a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in 1991 for her swimming prowess and charity fund-raising. To date she has raised over £100,000 for various charities.
• She formerly worked as a currency trader in London, and now spends part of her life in Adelaide (Seacliff) and the summers in Dover as a English Channel Swim boat pilot.
• On 20 August 1984, she finished 5th overall in the First International Open Ocean Swim, a 41.09 km Catalina Channel crossing from Isthmus Beach of Santa Catalina Island to Cabrillo Beach on the Southern California mainland in 9 hours 33 minutes at the age of 19.
• She completed a 36 km crossing from Capri to Napoli in Italy in 8 hours 45 minutes in 1986.
• She completed a 45.9 km Manhattan Island Marathon Swim in New York, U.S.A. in 6 hours 47 minutes in 1990.
• She completed a 67 km two-way crossing of the English Channel in 20 hours 55 minutes in 1995.
• She completed a crossing of the Toreneous Strait in Greece in 6 hours 42 minutes in 1998.
• She completed a crossing of the Yarra River to the St Kilda Pier in Melbourne, Australia in 9 hours 40 minutes in 1998.
• She completed a 100 km circumnavigation swim of the Isle of Wight, U.K. in 21 hours 2 minutes in 1984.
• She completed a 42-mile swim from Richmond, London to Gravesend, Kent (Tidal Thames), England in 14 hours 28 minutes in 1985.
• She completed a 42-mile swim from Gravesend, Kent to Richmond, London, England in 16 hours 0 minutes in 1986.
• She completed a 14-mile swim at Four Piers (Solent), U.K. in 4 hours 46 minutes in 1986.
• She was the first woman to complete a 35 km North Channel crossing from Northern Ireland to Scotland in 9 hours 54 minutes in 1988.
• She was the first person to complete a 35 km North Channel crossing from Scotland to Northerland Ireland in 10 hours 4 minutes in 1989.
• She completed a 66 km Round Jersey in the Channel Islands in 9 hours 54 minutes in 1989.
• She completed 7 English Channel crossings in one season (or an average of one every 10 days) in 1992.
• She set the overall record holder for greatest number of English Channel crossings with 43 solo crossings in 1995.
• She was the first person to complete a 28-mile solo swim from Isles of Scilly to Cornwall, U.K. in 15 hours 11 minutes in 1998.
• She has crossed the English Channel a total of 48 times, 43 solo crossings and 6 relay crossings.
• In 1984, she finished 2nd in the British Champion of Champions competition.
