John T. Goudy
John T. Goudy (born 12 November 1911, deceased 10 January 1967) was a long-time U.S. Coast Guard rescue swimmer and World War II hero who is the namesake for the John T. Goudy Memorial Rescue Races held annually in South New Jersey. He was also the long-time Ventnor Beach Patrol chief.
John T. Goudy Memorial Rescue Races[edit]
The John T. Goudy Memorial Rescue Races is an American lifeguard competition that have been going on for 44 years in South New Jersey. The races include the doubles surfboat rescue, the individual swim rescue, the combination rescue (where a crew and a swimmer work together), and the individual surfboat rescue.
Participating beach patrols in the South Jersey area include Atlantic City, Lavallette, Ship Bottom, Island Beach State Park, Harvey Cedars and Normandy Beach.
